Public Transport

Our B&B is situated on the main Citylink bus routes from Glasgow to Skye (via Fort William), and from Inverness to Skye (via Loch Ness). There is an ideally situated bus stop at the corner of the minor road leading to the house, less than a mile away. Ask the driver to get off at the Nostie bus stop, about 2 miles after Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie. We can meet you at the road end if you let us know well in advance, and we can let you drop off your bags in the house early if you are taking a morning bus. Both bus routes connect with Kyle of Lochalsh for shopping, though there are nearer shops in Dornie and Reraig, also on the bus route.

Kyle of Lochalsh has a rail service to Inverness - look for the North Highlands timetable. From Kyle you can simply take the Citylink bus to Nostie. There is also a taxi office in Kyle.

There are also some other less frequent local services which run from Kyle of Lochalsh during some weekdays. There is a limited service provided by MacRae Kintail which runs between Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh and Glenelg (where there is an old ferry to Skye). There is also a (schooldays only) service provided by Maclean's Coaches which runs between Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh and Auchtertyre - from there it is possible to walk along the pavement to Nostie.

Driving, and Directions to the Door

We are not far from the main A87 which links the Great Glen at Invergarry to the Skye Bridge and Portree and Uig.

To find the house from the A87, look for the road sign for Nostie and Avernish, 2 miles from Dornie, or 8 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh. It is on the left if you are heading westbound from Dornie. You will also see the bus shelter on the left if you are heading this way. Go past a few houses after leaving the main road. You will see that the road then goes to the right over a small bridge and cattle grid, and heads up a slight hill through some trees and a series of double bends, and then the road straightens out and goes down a slight hill. The house is first left at the foot of the hill. It's quite easy to miss and go straight on past it. Please note that we are before Avernish Lodge, which is slightly misplaced on the Google mapping system. That should be shown further on. Our house is named "Ceol Na Ron" but the sign needs fixed so just go by the directions, map below, and photo above. The house number is not shown as I think there are two other houses sharing the same number due to the old crofting system, which would cause confusion.

We are at the Nostie end of Avernish, just 1km from the main A87. So dont go to the end of the road. It's quite easy to miss the house and the road is single track with passing places. Bear in mind that locals walk their dogs along this narrow road, so please drive slowly and carefully. Thank you.

The location marker for our bed and breakfast may sometimes not appear on the map, especially when using a touchscreen or mouse-wheel or when rotating your screen, all of which can move the map around or change scaling. If you pan or reduce the scale, the marker should re-appear.

If the location marker for our bed and breakfast does not appear you may need to pan or reduce the scale.
